Bereavement

If you’ve experienced the death of someone important to you, you might find it difficult to adjust to the changes happening in your life. This is normal. Grief can affect each of us in different ways. There’s no right or wrong way to feel, though shock, numbness, exhaustion, anger and guilt are emotions many people feel as they experience grief and loss.

At Waverley Care, we understand that bereavement coupled with HIV or Hepatitis C can bring additional complications. Fear of stigma, or concerns about disclosure of a loved one’s HIV or Hepatitis C status, can compound an already stressful situation. Some people may also feel shut out by a partner’s family or feel a sense of guilt at still being alive.

It’s important to know that you’re not alone. We can help if the person who has died was living with HIV or Hepatitis C, or if it is you who is living with one of the conditions and have experienced the loss of a loved one.

We offer a wide range of support services that can help you deal with many of the issues that accompany bereavement. You might want help in coping with the emotional impact of your loss or you might need assistance with more practical matters, such as the financial implications or help in dealing with funeral directors.
