Gay Men

Waverley Care’s Gay Men’s Support Service aims to provide a safe and confidential space for gay men living with HIV.

Individuals can share experiences, concerns and information about HIV and its associated issues and gain support and advice from their peers and from Waverley Care’s dedicated support worker. There are many benefits to be gained from talking to others who have a real understanding of what you have been through, and are going through, in life.

People who use the service speak of feeling less isolated and having developed new social networks with other gay men living with HIV. Becoming more knowledgeable about HIV, its treatment and prevention is another advantage of the support group and many of the men have gained the confidence to make changes and move forward with their lives. Many are doing things they never thought possible.

The benefits for men who have used the service include

  • going back to work,
  • starting further education/ training,
  • healthier lifestyles,
  • improved personal relationships with partners, friends and family,
  • improved knowledge of HIV and its treatment.

The social group from the service meets weekly in different venues in and around Edinburgh. Residential trips also take place during the year.
