International Development
Waverley Care has been involved in HIV developments in sub-Saharan Africa since January 2006. The organisation quickly realised that if we were to offer the best care and support to Africans living in Scotland it was important to learn from best practice in Africa as well as look at how our own knowledge and expertise could be shared with African colleagues.
Initially this knowledge sharing work was with a women’s co-operative in Livingstone, Zambia. Scottish Government support allowed us to support the co-operative in capacity building activities from January 2006 to June 2008. The women supported Waverley Care by sharing culturally appropriate counselling techniques.
Our current work is a partnership project in Malawi called “Yankhulani!”, which translates to `Speak Out`, and has been operating since January 2009, again funded by the Scottish Government.
