#laffoffstigma - New campaign launched.

Every year, when the Edinburgh Fringe Festival rolls into town, Waverley Care volunteers get out their green t-shirts, grab a supply of Tartan Ribbons, and head up to the Pleasance Courtyard. The Pleasance, and many of the comedians with shows in Pleasance venues, support Waverley Care by allowing us to collect donations in the Courtyard and outside venues, as well as organising the Tartan Ribbon Comedy Benefit in our aid. If you are heading over to the Pleasance this August you will notice lots of people wearing our Tartan Ribbons helping to raise awareness of our work supporting people living with HIV in Scotland. This year we decided to take this one step further….onto the web!

HIV infections continue to the rise but due to the stigma surrounding HIV it’s not a hot topic of conversation. The #laffoffstigma campaign aims to fight the stigma that surrounds HIV; stigma and discrimination that makes life very difficult for those living with HIV, and for their family and friends. 

Every HIV diagnosis is someone’s story, it is not for us to judge or assume or guess, it is for us to be alongside, to be accepting, to support.

This is where you come in.

Financial support is, of course, vital to our work and every donation we receive is greatly appreciated. However, just as important are people like you showing your support for our work, telling your friends about what we do, and being willing to be associated with Waverley Care and those living with HIV. You can help us fight the stigma endured by those living with HIV.

You can say “naff off stigma” and help us #laffoffstigma.

It’s easy, you can support us in 3 simple steps:

1. Get the story - visit our blog and read about the stigma endured by those living with HIV in Scotland.
2. Get a twibbon - click on the box below to get the #laffoffstigma twibbon for your Facebook or Twitter profile and show your support.
3. Get social - tell your friends about the campaign and if you are a "twitterer" get on Foursquare to enter our prize draw.
