Food and Cookery Course Launched
12 Aug 10Waverley Care has launched a new food and cookery course. For six Fridays service users will be learning about nutrition and food preparation to help them improve their diet and, in turn, improve their overall health.
The first week of the course focused on vegetarian food and during other weeks participants will be learning about pasta dishes and curries. The course is being run by a group of staff from Waverley Care’s community projects team.
Rik Hodgson, Employment and Skills Worker, said “We are running the course in our activity room using microwaves and a couple of baby belling cookers. The idea is that we cook up some great food in very basic kitchen conditions so that the group feel that they would be able to cook the same meals in their kitchens at home. This is a pilot and if successful we hope to run the group a few times a year.”
Dietician Tracy Russell from the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and Stuart Muir, Head Chef from Harvey Nichols will be making guests appearances on the course to encourage participants to alter unhealthy eating habits and improve health and wellbeing.
Thanks to Scotmid for their support of this project.
