Happy Birthday Milestone House

Today is a very special anniversary for our respite unit Waverley Care Milestone as it opened its doors 20 years ago today as the first purpose built AIDS hospice in the UK and the only AIDS hospice in Scotland.

The official opening took place with Diana, Princess of Wales in October 1991 and since then many well known names have visited Milestone including Sir Sean Connery, Sir Ian McKellen and Stephen Fry.

In the early years Milestone has nursed hundreds of people in their final days and weeks of life but, as a respite unit, it is now a place that helps people get the most out of life; supporting them to cope with a new diagnosis or with the severe side effects of treatment or taking time away from the stresses and stigma of everyday life living with HIV.
