HIV and Pregnancy Workshop
06 May 11On 27th April, Waverley Care, in partnership with Positively UK, ran a workshop on HIV and Pregnancy at our Glasgow offices.
The day was a basic overview of HIV and pregnancy which dealt with conception methods, ante-natal and post natal care. It was aimed both at women seeking further information on these topics and also at those who might be interested in offering future support as ‘mentor mothers’, a project which will hopefully be rolled out over the next year.
Seven women attended the day. Some shared their stories, many questions were asked and useful tips exchanged. It was a day filled with laughter as well as some sobering moments. It also served as a serious reminder that sometimes information considered by many to be the basic facts about HIV can simply have been misunderstood or, in some cases, been entirely inaccurate.
Having seen this need for even the most basic information it seems that this workshop can provide a platform, not only for information about pregnancy and HIV but also as a means to disseminate a wider range of basic information about HIV on a more regular basis.
Waverley Care is hoping to provide more workshops of this nature throughout Scotland in future. If you are interested in taking part please contact networkalba@waverleycare.org or keep an eye on our website for further details.
