Director Announces Retirement

26 May 11

After nearly 17 years with Waverley Care, Director, David Johnson has announced his retirement from the charity effective at the end of the year.

David said “My time as Director of Waverley Care has been both an amazing and humbling experience and I fully intend to remain a supporter and be involved in the charity on a voluntary basis.

One of the great pleasures of working with the charity has been seeing at first hand the support and friendship amongst service users, volunteers, staff and supporters. This has always been a huge encouragement. Thank you.”

Lucy, a Waverley Care Service User said “David meets people on their level, whether they are celebrities or those facing isolation on the fringes of society. He has led Waverley Care with a real human touch."

Convenor of the Board of Trustees, Tom Wood said “David has contributed a huge amount to Waverley Care and has taken the charity from a local Edinburgh charity to a Scotland-wide organisation supporting hundreds of people across the country. He has been a champion for excellence in blood borne virus treatment and care in Scotland and has effectively worked alongside people to achieve change. We are very grateful for all he has done for Waverley Care and his work has shown that the voluntary sector can bring credibility, value and quality to service provision.”

The Board has established a recruitment process and is hoping that the new Director will be in place for November/December this year.

David said “I wish every success to my successor who takes on the exciting task of driving forward this vital organisation. I am enormously proud of Scotland’s record in progressing work in blood borne virus treatment and care and of Waverley Care’s role in that.  That said, there is still a great deal of work to be done in tackling the public misconceptions about HIV and Hepatitis C and the vital task of how we minimise new transmissions of the conditions going forward. I look forward to maintaining strong links with Waverley Care.”
