Report Launch - They call me... YOU ARE AIDS
02 Dec 11Today sees the launch of a new report on HIV, Human Rights and Asylum Seekers in Scotland. 'They call me "YOU ARE AIDS...''
Funded by the British Academy, the report is being launched by Pamela Nash, MP and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on HIV and AIDS. The research was conducted Dr George Palattiyil and Dr Dina Sidhva from the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh.
The intention of the study was to provide an in-depth understanding of lived realities of HIV positive asylum seekers in Scotland. This was in order to provide visibility and place more emphasis on their human rights in discussions of the way services are delivered to them. The participants came from Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, Burundi, Ethiopia, Malawi, South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania and Kenya and were all receiving support from Waverley Care.
A copy of the report can be downloaded here. For more information on the report, please contact g.palattiyil@ed.ac.uk .
