We Will Rock You raises over £8,000
20 Dec 11To mark World AIDS Day, “We Will Rock You” cast members and staff at The Edinburgh Playhouse have been busy shaking buckets to raise money for Waverley Care.
The collections, taken throughout the week of World AIDS Day, brought in a total of £8,323.58. This will be used towards the work of our Community Projects, which are located in close proximity to the Playhouse, at Mansfield Place. Services on offer there include one-to-one support, group activities, health promotion, advice & information and a children and families project.
Grant Sugden, Director of Waverley Care, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the generosity of audiences attending “We Will Rock You”. There is an obvious link between World AIDS Day and Freddie Mercury’s memory and so we were thrilled when both The Edinburgh Playhouse and the We Will Rock You production company agreed to renew their support for us. The resulting income will help us make a very real difference to the lives of people living with HIV here in Edinburgh.”
The Edinburgh Playhouse General Manager, Gary Roden said, “The Edinburgh Playhouse is proud to support the excellent work Waverley Care do in Edinburgh. We’re delighted that our audience members have been so generous and have donated an amazing amount of money to such a worthy cause especially during the week of World AIDS Day. We know that Waverley Care will put this money to excellent use by supporting people in our local community living with HIV.”
