Supporting ProudNess

Over the weekend over 5,000 people gathered in Inverness for ProudNess, the first Highland Pride event in over 15 years.

The event was a celebration of the region’s LGBTI+ communities, and there was an amazing atmosphere as everyone joined a march from Falcon Square in the city centre, to Eden Court theatre.

Our Highland team, including the Wave Project, were proud to join in the march, followed by a stall at the community fair, talking to people about sexual health, access to HIV and STI testing, and offering free condoms.

We were also talking to people about the effectiveness of HIV treatment and the U=U message.

U=U stands for ‘Undetectable equals Untransmittable’, and refers to the clear evidence that a person living with HIV, who is on treatment with an undetectable viral load, cannot pass HIV on to their sexual partners. It is a really strong message that we want to share to help reduce the fear and stigma that is sometimes still associated with HIV.

After a busy, colourful, exciting weekend, we’d like to thank the Highland LGBT Forum for all their work organising this fantastic event, and everyone who attended and spoke to the team.
