Colin Beck

Organisation: City of Edinburgh Council

Colin is a Senior Manager at the City of Edinburgh Council.

What is your role at Edinburgh Council?

I have a long job title: Senior Manager Mental Health, Criminal Justice, Homelessness and Substance Misuse.

How long have you been in the role?

I have been a Social Worker since 1981 and after spending a long time in Mental Health Social Work I have managed services across all client groups.

How do you work alongside Waverley Care?

I have been involved with Waverley Care for a long time and led on the recent review of services provided at Milestone.

What stands out to you about Waverley Care & our work?

People impress me most. The people I met during the process of the review who use services at Milestone. The staff who provide care and support and the management and board members who show passion and commitment to their work.

What would you say to someone thinking of getting in touch to access our services?

Don’t hesitate, you won’t regret it.

Tell us a bit about you…..  What do you love doing out of work?

I was born in 1958 in Motherwell and moved to Edinburgh in 1978 as a student. Edinburgh is my home and where I work. I still venture to the west on a regular basis where I have a wee cottage by the sea. I am a member of Broughton St Mary’s where I sing in the choir and I also play the piano and love walking to relax. I also enjoy cooking or going out for meals accompanied by a ‘light libation’.

Who inspires you?

People who are honest, brave and kind.
