The Waverley Care board is there to oversee the governance of our charity, ensuring that the needs of the people we're there to support are put first. Each of our Trustees brings a diverse skills and experiences, both professional and personal to their roles, and all have their own story to tell about why they wanted to get involved in our work.
Fiona MacFarlane (Chair) (She/Her)
Lead Consultant, Morham Solutions
Fiona joined Waverley Care's Board in August 2019 and was appointed Chair in December 2020.
After her studies at Edinburgh University (where she studied Chemical Engineering, followed by an MBA), she pursued a career with BP, subsequently qualifying as a chartered engineer.
A temporary secondment in 1993 resulted in a seismic shift in her career path, and she has been in communications roles across business, education and the third sector ever since.
In her spare time, Fiona is involved in musical theatre. She is a trustee of Southern Light Opera, Edinburgh’s oldest musical theatre company, and has been a member of Showcase, which raises money for Macmillan Cancer Support, for thirty years.
It was this love of musical theatre that brought her to Waverley Care back in the early '90s - when she participated in a fundraising performance of The Pirates of Penzance, under the musical eye of Christopher Bell.
Over the years her path continued to cross with Waverley Care. She found that her voluntary work brought her into contact with so many inspirational people, who went on to become some of her best friends. She saw first hand the selflessness of members of the team and thinks that is one of the main reasons that she was drawn to Waverley Care.
Alongside here roles at Morham Solutions and Waverley Care, Fiona also holds a number of non-executive director and trustee roles across the charitable sector in Scotland. She is a Member of the Court of the Merchant Company, a Governor of Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools, and a Burgess of the City of Edinburgh.
Steven Naismith (Treasurer)
Senior Corporate Finance Manager, Edinburgh Airport
Steven joined the Waverley Care Board in June 2019 and has served as Treasurer throughout that time.
Theatre Director, HQ Theatres and Hospitality
Adam is our longest serving Board member, first joining the team in September 2015.
Greg Flett (He/Him)
Partner, Davidson Chalmers Steward LLP
Greg joined Waverley Care's Board in August 2019.
Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2009, he has practiced exclusively in the field of dispute resolution, and has been a partner with his firm since 2018. He enjoys the fast-pace of his work, the variety of challenges it can bring, and helping people navigate their way through difficult and stressful situations.
Greg first encountered Waverley Care when he came along to one of the testing drop-ins offered by SX, our health and wellbeing service for gay, bisexual and all men who have sex with men. He learned more about us, and our work, through his husband, who previously worked in sexual health and blood borne virus policy at the Scottish Government.
After finding out more about the support we offer to some of Scotland's most vulnerable people, he became keen to get involved, and has been delighted to be able to offer some of his professional skills and life experience to the Board.
Harry Dozier (He/Him)
Head of Workfoce Equality, The Scottish Government
Harry joined Waverley Care's Board in April 2021.
His background is in Communications and he brings extensive experience in delivering effective engagement around issues of equality and diversity in both the public and volunteer sectors to his role on the Board.
Health and health education are issues that are dear to Harry's heart, and he first became aware of Waverley Care through his own experiences of family and friends living with HIV.
He wanted to get involved in our work because he believes our work is invaluable to the health and wellbeing of LGBTI+ and wider communities in Scotland.
Senior People Policy Manager, Lloyds Banking Group
Kenny joined Waverley Care's board in April 2021.
He has worked in a variety of HR and people roles and has over 20 years of senior experience within complex financial services organisations in the UK and internationally. He prides himself on designing and delivering people solutions that are values based and commercially sound.
Kenny first got to know Waverley Care a few years ago, when he supported our management team as we looked to set out our values as a charity. Our focus on helping people to enjoy good health and wellbeing resonated with his personal and professional experience, inspiring him to get more involved.
Lambros Karasellos (He/Him)
Community Programmes Officer, People's Postcode Lottery
Lambros joined the Waverley Care Board in April 2021.
His background is in hospitality and retail, starting his career in what he has described as some of the most beautiful settings in Africa before moving to the UK.
For the past 6 years has been with People’s Postcode Lottery, an experience that inspired him to get more involved in supporting the work of charities.
He first encountered the work of Waverley Care through his role at the People's Postcode Lottery and, when he heard we were looking for new board members, he was inspired to get involved.
Sam Abdulla (He/Him)
Lecturer in Nursing (Learning Disabilities), Edinburgh Napier University
Sam joined the Waverley Care Board in April 2021.
He has worked in Higher Education since 2016, with particular interest in community and complex care nursing for people with learning disabilities. His research interests lie within the fields of education and health inequalities.
Sam's first encounter with Waverley Care was through fundraising as a member of the Caledonian Thebans rugby team. He was inspired to get involved to contribute to making a difference to communities who experience stigma and marginalisation. Now that he's a member of the Board, he's keen to continue to be actively involved in Waverley Care fundraising.
