Why did you choose to work for Waverley Care?

Whilst at University in Loughborough I was chair of the LGBT Society. At this time the AIDS Epidemic was severely impacting our community and I was a member of the campaigning group ACT UP. A year later after graduating, I got my first job as an Information Officer with SOLAS, a community HIV project in Edinburgh. SOLAS then became part of Waverley Care in 1994.

Tell us about life before Waverley Care.

I have worked primarily in HIV, for a short time in mental health with the Scottish Government and in between these I managed a hepatitis c service in Edinburgh. My life with Waverley Care began in 1991, as Information Officer at SOLAS, I left in 2001 and came back to work with Waverley Care in 2009, as a manager and now senior manager.

What do you most enjoy about working with Waverley Care?

My colleagues, the people we deliver services to. I also think that Waverley Care continuous to be an inspiring and innovative organization, that continues to grow and develop. The fact that we can support those who most need our services motivates me to work for this organization.

What do you do in your spare time?

I garden, I read and I run, in no particular order. I also enjoy being with my friends and family.

Who inspires you?

Martha Baillie. Martha was my manager at Waverley Care, for many years, with her mentoring, she has helped shape the person I am today at work.
