I started working at Waverley Care when my husband told me they were looking for bank support workers at Milestone. I had been interested in it because I have a direct connection with my family and HIV and I knew and had seen the dreadful way it can affect people when it is not controlled. From my very first day I loved it, everything about it was good especially working with our service users and our wonderful staff. When the chance came up for me to get a full-time position, I could not believe it and I was lucky enough to be offered the position.
I am originally from South Africa and came to Scotland after I got married to Mike, I worked in a toyshop and made trousers before moving into the care sector. I worked with West Lothian Council for 10 years where I worked with the elderly in a residential setting; I really enjoyed this but needed a new challenge.
I enjoy everything about my job especially when I get time to talk with service users as anyone who knows me will know I like a wee chat now and again. It is great to see people using Milestone and seeing the change in them when they leave at the end of their stay. I really enjoy the fact that our service users trust us to support them and show their appreciation in simple ways, a little smile and a thank you means a lot to me.
In my spare time I like to spend time with my 3 grandchildren whenever I can, I love watching romantic movies and will watch just about anything that is sentimental. I have recently joined the gym I am really loving it. I enjoy a glass of red wine now and again and love curry especially when my husband makes them. Most of all I love spending time with my family.
I am inspired by my husband Mike; we met in South Africa and were married there and then came to Scotland he has worked hard to ensure that all of the family have had a good life. He has supported my son when he came to live with us and takes care of everyone. Mike makes sure that everyone is happy and always puts his family first before himself.
