Towards the end of my university degree I knew I wanted to work for a small local charity that tackles social injustice and inequalities. Waverley Care’s work with the LGBTQ+ community, asylum seekers and other marginalised and oppressed groups is literally saving lives and that’s a pretty good reason to get up in the morning every day and go to work.
The good news stories! Every so often you get to hear a happy story about a service user’s successful asylum application or job interview. Seeing my colleagues support these people through challenging processes is inspiring and very fulfilling!
When not at work, you can usually find me in an art gallery, a vintage shop or planning my next trip. I’m also a proud dad of multiple house plants that I’m learning how not to kill.
At the moment - Greta Thunberg! Her determination and energy and the way she deals with bullies from the ruling class are inspiring. ‘’When haters go after your looks and differences, it means they have nowhere left to go. And then you know you’re winning! I have Aspergers and that means I’m sometimes a bit different from the norm. And - given the right circumstances - being different is a superpower.’’
