Why did you choose to work for Waverley Care?
I began my journey with Waverley Care as a volunteer and loved the opportunities It provided. I especially enjoyed meeting the clients and getting to know them each individually. The information I had around Blood Borne Viruses was poor and I knew of people who were living with either HIV and/or hepatitis C personally and felt helpless. I wanted to help, even just to listen, understand the issues folk were experiencing.
Tell us about life before Waverley Care.
I was actively involved in Recovery Café’s around Glasgow East End. I enjoyed working with and managing fellow volunteers, plus, organizing the running of one of the Cafés. I was also studying to become a Counselling Psychologists - so life was pretty busy!!!
What do you most enjoy about working with Waverley Care?
For me it will always be about the clients. The way I see it is - The relationship you enter is a two way street. You learn so much from the people you are supporting whilst, they are learning from you too. Clients amaze me all the time with their resilience and strength to continue to overcome barriers, plus, deal with some of the most painful times in their lives in order to make changes.
What do you do in your spare time?
What Spare time? lol
Currently I am studying, looking after my beautiful granddaughter on the weekends and keeping my beautiful 10 year old entertained whist also learning to drive.
When mum does get a minute to herself- I enjoy chilling to some music in a nice big hot bubble bath surrounded by loads and loads of candles. I also enjoy the odd crime novel – “The Interpretation of Murder” It’s Fab!!!
In the mornings a wee bit of meditation to get me going!!
