HIV Informed: A Learning Hub for Health & Social Care Workers
In this video, Emma, Waverley Care’s Senior Learning & Engagement Officer, explains what HIV Informed is, who it was created for, and why the learning hub plays such an important role in helping to ensure people living with HIV receive informed, stigma-free care.
What is HIV Informed?
HIV Informed is a free online learning hub designed to tackle HIV related stigma across Scotland’s health and social care workforce.
Developed by Waverley Care in partnership with the Scottish Government and people living with HIV, the learning hub is funded by the Scottish Government as part of its national commitment to end new HIV transmission and tackle stigma.
It provides trusted up-to-date information about HIV treatment, prevention, stigma, and care.
Who is it for?
HIV Informed is designed for anyone working in health and social care, from nurses, GPs and dentists to social care and community-based staff. The learning is suitable for both those new to HIV and those looking to refresh their knowledge.
Why was it developed?
Although HIV treatment and prevention have advanced significantly, misconceptions and stigma still affect the experiences of people living with HIV and can discourage people from seeking the care or treatment they need. HIV Informed was created to improve understanding, challenge outdated knowledge, build confidence and support more inclusive, stigma-free care across Scotland.
What does the learning include?
The learning hub consists of three short modules: HIV today, HIV stigma, and working in health and social care, that can be completed around busy working lives.
The learning includes:
- Short videos and real-life experiences of HIV today, and the impact of stigma
- Engaging quizzes and microlearning modules to test understanding
- Downloadable guides and quick-reference resources for workplace use
- Certificates of completion to support professional learning and development
