Grant Sugden, Chief Executive of Waverley Care, has responded to Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader’s, comments on asylum seekers accessing HIV treatment on the NHS.
“In Scotland, anyone can access HIV treatment for free, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. This approach is not only compassionate, but it is also essential to public health.
Thanks to advances in medicine, people living with HIV can lead full, healthy lives with antiretroviral therapy, which also prevents onward transmission to others.
Scotland has a real opportunity to become the first country in the world to achieve zero new HIV transmission. But this is only possible if everyone has access to the care and treatment they need. We must continue to work together to ensure no one is left behind.”
