Coronavirus (COVID-19) Announcement: We’re suspending in-person support services


Due to ongoing coronavirus (also known as COVID-19) developments, we have now taken the decision to suspend our in-person support and testing services across Scotland. We have taken this decision with the best interests of people who use our services at heart, recognising the need for social distancing as a way of protecting the health and wellbeing of those who are vulnerable in society. That means our Glasgow, Inverness and Edinburgh offices will now be closed until further notice. However, our residential support centre, Waverley Care Milestone, will remain open with a reduced service, taking no new admissions. We will be continuing to provide support to people who need it by phone, text, and email, and through our live chat service.

Can I still get support with HIV, hepatitis C or sexual health?

While our in-person services are suspended, we will continue to make sure you can get support with HIV, hepatitis C, and sexual health in the following ways:

By phone:

If you are already receiving support from our teams, you can continue to contact your worker by calling their mobile phone number. Our teams will continue to support you over the phone during this difficult time. If you’re not sure what your worker’s phone number is, call us on 0131 4416989 from 9am-5pm (Monday to Sunday), to speak directly with a member of our team.

If you are not already receiving support from our staff, you can call us on 0131 4416989 from 9am-5pm (Monday to Sunday) to speak directly with a member of our team. They will advise you on how we will support you by phone during this time.

By email:

If you are already receiving support from our teams, you can continue to contact your worker by email. Our teams will continue to support you by email during this difficult time. If you’re not sure what your worker’s email address is, call us on 0131 4416989 from 9am- 5pm (Monday to Sunday) to speak directly with a member of our team.

Through our live chat:

We are now extending our live chat service to Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm.

That means you can contact us during this time at www.waverleycare.org, and you will be able to speak directly to a member of our team.

I need to get HIV, hepatitis C or sexual health testing, where do I go?

NHS sexual health services are continuing to provide testing services at central locations. Find out where your local NHS sexual health service is located here. However, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • high temperature or,
  • new, continuous cough

you and anyone you are living with, should self-isolate for 14 days and follow advice from nhsinform.scot.

I want to talk to someone right now, what do I do?

If you want to speak to a member of our support team right now, you can:

  • call us on 0131 4416989 from 9am-5pm (Monday to Sunday) and speak directly to a member of our team
  • contact us through live chat from 9am – 5pm (Monday to Friday) at www.waverleycare.org and speak directly to a member of our team

When will in-person support be available again?

As coronavirus is a changing situation, we are unable to let you know when we can provide in-person support. However, we are reviewing this on a daily basis and will continue to share updates on how our services are provided and how you can get support. Stay up to date on what we’re doing by following us on social media, and checking our website.

In the meantime, we urge anyone who needs support with HIV, hepatitis C or sexual health in Scotland to contact us by phone on 0131 4416989 from 9am – 5pm (Monday to Sunday) or through our live chat at www.waverleycare.org from 9-5pm (Monday – Thursday until March 2020 and then Monday – Friday from April 20202 onwards).

How does this affect SX?

SX in-person support services are also suspended. However, you can still get support from your SX worker by phone, text and email. Our SX team are also continuing to provide support through apps like Grindr.  

How does this affect Wave Highland?

Wave Highland’s in-person activities in schools are also suspended. However, you can still get sexual health information for young people by going to Wave Highland’s website here.
