Getting Tested at University of Edinburgh

“I can’t believe it would be this quick and straight forward. People need to know that it’s not as daunting as they think.” – Edinburgh Uni Student on Getting Tested

Following a hugely successful pop-up testing event as part of Pride Edinburgh 2018, we’re delighted to announce that our SX team are now providing drop-in community testing sessions, including Rapid HIV testing, at the University of Edinburgh.

Back by popular student demand, our SX team are providing drop-in testing sessions with a view to encouraging regular sexual health screens while normalising HIV testing for students. We are delighted to have been supported by Edinburgh University Student Association as well as Pride Soc and Youth Stop AIDS in establishing this regular opportunity for students to check in with their sexual health.

Through providing drop-in testing sessions at the University of Edinburgh, we aim to make testing available to students in their local area in a supportive and relaxed manner, while also challenging the stigma attached to getting tested. When carrying out testing, the team at SX have the chance to talk to students one-on-one about risk and prevention when it comes to sexual health and HIV. These drop-in testing sessions will also enable students to understand their HIV status while becoming more informed about the sex they are having.

The sessions are held on campus at Teviot Row House and are available every three months to students of all gender identities.

We would like to thank NHS Lothian for funding our work testing across Edinburgh and, our fantastic volunteers whose constant support makes providing three monthly drop-ins possible.
