Thank YOU for Making a Difference to our Work!
We are delighted to announce that Make a Difference Trust has awarded £15,000 for 2019/20 to support our Community Project Team in Lothian. This funding will help us continue to support people living with HIV with their finances and benefits, helping reduce the impact of poverty and, associated health and social inequalities.
Welfare benefits reform and the introduction of Universal Credit is having a major impact on the finances of our people we support, leading to significant lifestyle challenges, with an increased reliance on local food and clothing banks. Increasingly people using our services are being found fit for work and moved on to Job Seekers Allowance. Even when successful in finding employment, people’s incomes are lower and are often not at the same level previously received through welfare benefits. People find themselves in work but financially worse off and continuing to experience the impact of poverty.
With the support of Make a Difference Trust, our Community Project Team will help people living with HIV to understand the decisions made on their benefits, supporting them to navigate the benefits system including the Mandatory Reconsideration and Appeals Assessment Hearing. This support will help people living with HIV to get the best outcome and maximise their income. We are also helping people we work with to live well on a reduced budget and to better manage their finances.
A big thank you from all of us at Waverley Care to the Make a Difference Trust– your support will help us continue to make a positive difference in our communities.
