On song for Christmas celebrations

In the run up to Christmas, we’ve been entering into the spirit of the season with some suitably festive fundraising concerts.

At the beginning of the month, we gathered in Haddington for a Come & Sing performance of Handel’s Messiah Part 1 in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Parish Church.

Conductor Susan Hamilton and organist Stuart Hope guided our 130 singers through this quintessential Christmas classic along with a selection of favourite Christmas carols.

Between contributions from singers and a collection on the day, the event raised just over £1,000 to support our work.

Continuing the musical theme, last weekend we were joined by the amazing Scottish Chamber Choir for Joy to the World. The concert of choral music and carols was held at Broughton St Mary’s in Edinburgh, and included seasonal readings from our special guest, Richard Holloway. Music was provided by Michael Bonaventure on the organ and a Brass Quintet.

The concert was in aid of both Waverley Care and The Soko Fund, a Scottish charity devoted to securing university education for women in Malawi. We’re still waiting for final figures but expect the event to have raised in the region of £500

We are grateful to everyone who made each of these events such a festive treat, raising money that will help us to continue to support people living with HIV or Hepatitis C across Scotland.
