Something Brewing at Milestone

Managers and staff from Starbucks took a break from the daily grind this week to spend a day volunteering in the Milestone gardens.

The team from across Scotland and the North of England hit the grounds running, taking a double shot at everything from pulling weeds, arranging window boxes and building picnic tables kindly donated by the Braids Rotary Club.

The visit builds on the excellent relationship that Waverley Care has developed with branches of the coffee giant in and around Edinburgh which, in 2016, collected over £2,500 to support our work.

Milestone is a place where people living with HIV or Hepatitis C can focus on improving their physical and emotional health at times when they are struggling to manage. Our staff are there to support residents to manage their condition well – whether it’s keeping up-to-date with treatment, coping with side effects or accessing appointments. We also offer the opportunity for peer support where residents can share their experiences in a supportive environment.

Part of the approach is to create a fun, relaxed atmosphere, and access to the gardens is a big part of this. We are incredibly grateful to groups like the one from Starbucks who volunteer to help maintain the space for service users to enjoy.

If you work for an organisation that supports charity volunteering and fundraising, you can get in touch to find out how you can get involved. Call our Corporate Fundraiser Ewan on 0131 556 9710 for more information.

In the meantime, from all of us at Waverley Care, thanks a latte!
