Talking transgender on Oban FM

Last week our Argyll & Bute project worker, Katrina, appeared on Oban FM’s In Conversation, talking to host, Breege Smyth, about transgender issues.

Katrina was joined on the show by Sarah Yann Fanet, a local singer-songwriter. During the recording of Sarah’s latest album, she began her gender transition.  In the interview she talks about the challenges of that journey, both personally and professionally, interspersed with her songs.

The show also covers the support Waverley Care offers in Argyll and Bute for people affected by HIV or Hepatitis C and to LGBTI people.

The show, which you can listen to above, is a fascinating listen for anyone wanting to know more about gender dysphoria, where a person experiences extreme discomfort because there is a mismatch between their biological sex and gender identity. It’s fantastic to hear these issues being discussed on radio, with the empowering message that people should not be afraid to be who they are.
