Tartan Ribbon Dinner

More than 200 Waverley Care supporters joined us in the beautiful surroundings of the Hub in Edinburgh at the start of the month for our Tartan Ribbon Dinner.

The black-tie event, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day, offered guests an evening of celebration, entertainment and, of course, fundraising.

Alongside the dinner, there was a tempting menu of prizes up for grabs in our online and live auctions. Among the prizes on offer were weekend getaways, sporting spectacles and money-can’t-buy experiences, all sold under the hammer of Bonhams auctioneer, Bruce Addison. All in, the event managed to raise an amazing £29,500 to support our work.

Throughout the evening the contribution that our supporters make to our work, and the impact this has on the lives of people living with HIV or hepatitis C, was highlighted. With 2019 marking the 30th anniversary of Waverley Care, we premiered a short film featuring some of our team, talking about why our services across Scotland are still as vital as ever. There were also short speeches from our Chair, Ian Arnot, and from Gareth Jenkins at Meridian Productivity, who kindly sponsored the event. There was also a standing ovation for our Tartan Ribbon Choir as they performed to the packed audience.

We were delighted to be joined for the evening by our host, Susan Calman, who welcomed our guests and set the scene for the night ahead. There was also wonderful after-dinner entertainment. First up, were Doris, Dolly and the Dressing Room Divas, who took a break from their hectic Edinburgh’s Christmas show to share the hilarious, heartbreaking, irreverent tales from the dressing rooms of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Our final act was the amazing Neil Henry, who has been captivating Fringe audiences for years with his unique, funny brand of magic.

We are incredibly grateful to our friends at Meridian Productivity, and to the Tartan Ribbon Dinner Committee who have worked over the past year to get arrangements in place. We’d also like to thank all the companies and individuals who donated prizes for the evening, Bruce Addison at Bonhams, our hosts at the Hub, all of our performers and, last but not least, to all of our amazing volunteers, supporters and guests.
