Waverley Care success at the nOscars

Bonfire night was given an additional sparkle this year as we picked up a UK-wide award at an event in London.

Our Health in Faith agenda, part of the African Health Project, won the Faith Award category at the fourth annual nOSCARS.

Organised by NAZ, a national sexual health charity, the nOSCARS celebrate the work of charities championing better sexual health for minority communities across the UK.

Our African Health Project works closely with African communities to raise awareness of HIV, encourage testing and reduce new infections.  The Health in Faith agenda has developed in recognition of the important role that African churches can play in supporting this work.

Working with a group of African faith leaders, we have been looking to explore ways to reduce health inequalities and help churches to become more involved in HIV prevention and support Since 2010, we have worked with 60 African-led churches across Scotland. A special conference in 2014 returned positive feedback from church leaders and local communities on the impact of the project.

We are honoured that our Health in Faith work has been recognised with a nOSCAR and we’ll continue to engage with African faith communities to increase awareness around HIV testing and treatment.
