World Hepatitis Summit Opens in Glasgow

We’re excited to be attending the first ever World Hepatitis Summit in Glasgow today.

The summit, which runs until Friday, is hosted by the Scottish Government and organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) with support from Glasgow Caledonian University and Health Protection Scotland.  The event is bringing together policy makers, patients, physicians and representatives from each of the World Hepatitis Alliance’s 200 patient group organisations.

Scotland is widely recognised as having a ‘world leading approach’ towards  tackling Hepatitis C and the summit will assist countries in developing their own national hepatitis action plans.  The event will also help to raise the global profile of viral hepatitis and provide an excellent networking opportunity for experts to share information and experiences.

We’ll be talking to fellow delegates about our approaches to Hepatitis C prevention and testing and the support services we offer to help prepare people physically and emotionally be ready  to start and complete treatment. We’ll also be highlighting how partnership working between the Scottish Government, the NHS, charities and community groups has been vital in achieving the success we’ve had in Scotland.
