World AIDS Day

Join us on World AIDS Day 2020 and help #SmashStigma.

Every year on 1 December, World AIDS Day is marked across the world. It’s an opportunity to commemorate those lost to AIDS-related illnesses, increase awareness of HIV, raise funds to support people affected by HIV today and smash the stigma that continues to surround the condition.

We would love you to become a World AIDS Day Champion in your workplace or community, or by volunteering at a bucket collection across Scotland. You can help #SmashStigma and make a real difference to the lives of people living with or affected by HIV and hepatitis C across Scotland.

You'll receive a World AIDS Day Champion’s Pack, including information about HIV, our fundraising top tips, a Waverley Care t-shirt, posters, banner and donation box.

We’re here to support you every step of the way and would love to talk about your plans. If you would like to speak to us, please contact the fundraising team, call 0131 556 9710 or email worldaidsday@waverleycare.org.

HIV in Scotland today WAD Champion Pack v2.jpg

HIV continues to be a big challenge for our communities across Scotland. There are 5,500 people diagnosed with HIV in Scotland today and, in the first half of 2019, there were 184 new diagnoses. With an ongoing HIV outbreak in Glasgow, our services are at the frontline tackling the outbreak, while continuing to reduce and prevent new diagnoses Scotland-wide.

With advances in treatment and medication, people living with HIV in the UK today can live a long and normal life.

But the fear, ignorance and stigma that surrounds the condition mean that people continue to live double lives, hiding their HIV diagnosis from neighbours, colleagues, and sometimes even family and friends.

At Waverley Care, we support and empower people living with HIV to live healthier, happier lives. We go to where people are in their communities, making HIV testing and treatment accessible to everyone, and #SmashStigma by talking about HIV as a part of everyday life.

With your support, we can make sure every person living with or affected by HIV gets the care and compassion they deserve.
