For over 30 years, Milestone House has been central to Waverley Care’s work. Opened in 1991 as the UK’s first purpose-built AIDS hospice, it offered dignity and compassion when HIV was seen as a death sentence. With treatment now transforming lives, residential hospice care is no longer needed, allowing Waverley Care to expand its community-based support across Scotland. Read on to find out how you can support us.
Why your support matters
Cuts to funding threaten the services people rely on. Our peer mentoring, outreach, and one-to-one support are lifelines that help people stay connected to care, overcome stigma and isolation, and live well. Without urgent action, these services are at risk.
As one of our peer mentors, Agnes, explains:
“A doctor or nurse can give you the facts, but when you hear it from someone also living with HIV, it has a different punch. People think, ‘If she can do it, I can too.’ Peer support gives people hope — and hope saves lives.”
How you can help
By supporting the Legacy of Milestone, you can carry forward everything Milestone stood for:
- Make a one-off gift to provide immediate support
- Set up a monthly donation to sustain services long-term
- Leave a gift in your Will to ensure future generations are never left without care
Donate now and help ensure no one living with HIV or hepatitis C in Scotland faces stigma, isolation, or discrimination.
With your help
- We can continue HIV and hepatitis C testing across Scotland
- Deliver life-changing peer mentoring led by people with lived experience
- Provide education and support that challenge stigma and change lives
Together, we can make sure the compassion at the heart of Milestone lives on in every community we serve.
