Job Title: Community Engagement Officer

Salary: £28,731 FTE: Actual Salary pro-rata for 21 hours/week £17,239 per annum 

Reporting to: Minority Ethnic Communities Manager 

Hours of work: Part-time (21 hours per week) 

Holidays: 22 days  (incl public holidays) pro-rata for part time  

Contract: Fixed Term until end of December 2026

Location: Hybrid (working from home and Glasgow office)

About the role

Our vision is for a Scotland where no one faces HIV alone, we will achieve this by fighting stigma and empowering people living with HIV to live full and healthy lives. 

We are at an exciting point in our history as we strive to reach the goal of zero transmissions by 2030. We have developed an ambitious new strategic plan, and we are investing in digital transformation, communications and policy, and we have aims to significantly increase our fundraising to invest in strengthening our support and prevention work across Scotland.   

This post offers an exciting opportunity to improve the lives of people living with HIV and plays a vital role in Waverley Care and Scotland’s ambition to reach Zero HIV Transmission by 2030. The Community Engagement Officer (Minority Ethnic Health) will:

1. Reach out to diverse communities across Greater Glasgow and Clyde disproportionately affected by HIV, in particular people from African communities and other minority ethnic communities where there is evidence of a high BBV prevalence rate, to raise awareness of HIV, sexual health and wellbeing, and the importance of knowing your BBV status.

2. To work closely with the Minority Ethnic Communities Manager and communications staff to develop and deliver a range of in person and digital interventions that address HIV and the sexual health needs of minority ethnic communities

3. Offer BBV testing in community venues.

4. Working closely with the Health Improvement Team, this post will collaborate with other team members to develop learning, skills, and best practice to support individuals. 

About the person

We are looking for a  motivated individual who: 

  • Has a demonstrable interest in,  or passion for, improving the lives of people affected by blood borne viruses (BBVs), in particular people disproportionately affected by HIV.  
  • Demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable groups.
  • A proven ability to work across community outreach, and digital interventions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with a range of stakeholders.  
  • Excellent English language written and verbal communication skills appropriate for a wide range of audiences  
  • Be a strong team player, able to use own initiative and reflect on their own practice.  
  • Interested in development opportunities and further training.
