About Waverley Care

For over 35 years, Waverley Care has worked alongside people and communities affected by HIV and hepatitis C. We deliver inclusive, stigma-free services and influence national policy to tackle health inequalities across Scotland.

While advances in treatment have transformed clinical outcomes, stigma and isolation continue to impact too many lives. Waverley Care exists to ensure that anyone affected by HIV or hepatitis C can live well, with dignity, respect, and support.

About the role

We are seeking new trustees to join our Board at an important point in our organisation’s journey. As our work increasingly focuses on ending stigma, tackling health inequalities, and amplifying lived experience, trustees play a vital role in shaping our future.

As a trustee, you will help ensure that Waverley Care remains value-led, sustainable, and responsive to the communities we serve.

As a trustee, you will:

  • Ensure the needs and voices of the people we work with are put first, and the charity remains true to its values and purpose
  • Set the organisation’s strategic direction and support the Executive Team in overseeing its delivery
  • Ensure the charity’s resources are managed responsibly and sustainably
  • Exercise overall oversight of the charity’s governance and business operations
  • Act as ambassadors for Waverley Care, helping to raise the profile of our work and support fundraising activities

Trustees are voluntary and unpaid, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. All new trustees are supported through an induction programme, including an introduction to Waverley Care’s services, governance arrangements, and strategic priorities.

Who we’re looking for

Previous trustee experience is not essential. We are looking for people who share our values and are motivated to make a difference. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with:

  • Lived experience of HIV, hepatitis C, or related health inequalities
  • Professional expertise in HR, fundraising, or finance

We especially welcome applications from trans people, disabled people, and people from ethnic minority communities, who are currently under-represented on our Board.

Time commitment
  • Four Board meetings per year (quarterly)
  • Occasional development days
  • Meetings are usually held in Edinburgh, with a virtual option available
